I. WHAT IS HONOR?

(1 Sam 2:30) "But now the LORD says: 'Far be it from Me; for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.
HONOR - to value, to prize, to esteem; "weighty"
DESPISE - (Websters) to regard with scorn, contempt; to regard as trivial or worthless; make light of, lightly esteem *to fail to recognize the value of*
If you honor God, He will honor you.
To honor is to find valuable. We should value what God values. If He says it is important, it is. More valuable than gold, silver or any possession you have, are people!
II. IF YOU DO NOT HONOR WHAT GOD HAS GIVEN YOU, YOU STAND TO LOSE IT.
Genesis: 25:23-34 Esau despised his birthright, Jacob was a tricker and a deceiver but he knew what was valuable.
God hated Esau in his mothers womb. Why? God knows the beginning from the end. Esau despised his inheritance and blessings from God.
We need to see the precious things from God as valuable.

Mark 4:24-25 - If you do not honor and respect what God has given, you will not get more and you could stand to lose what you have. Esteem and honor: God’s word, God’s anointing, God’s men and women. Honoring something brings more of it.
2 Thes. 2:13-14 Welcome preaching and teaching as from God, not men. Don’t be distracted, don’t hear just what you want to hear.
Luke 4:16-29 & Mark 6:1-5 Didn’t honor the Jesus as the Anointed One and they received no miracles. No honor - no great works Matt. 7:6 Don’t give what is holy to the dogs, don’t cast your pearls before swine.

II. SUMMARY OF QUALITIES OF HONOR
Righteousness is honoring the truth
Graciousness is honoring people weaker than you
Wisdom is honoring the Holy Spirit
Generousity is honoring those with less than you
Humility is honoring those in authority and above you
Self-Control is honoring your body as the temple of the Holy Ghost
Faith is honoring God and his word
Dignity is honoring yourself in the sense that God has made you, anointed you and called you.
Faithfulness is honoring what you have been given
